Book review of the week.

Hello fellow book worms, book dragons, or bookish people in general todays article is a book review on a book i have burrowed from the library and this story goes from following laila’s journey on being brought up in india and facing the slavery of what british people used to do the indians and the barrie how Pakistan came to be.

Why did i pick up this book? Well easy question since i was brought up as a muslim and and having found comfort in all sorts of books from a young age and then being told by mosque teachers the only book to be read is the holy book the Quran and finding my right as an author just like laila in the story and perhaps the author itself.

Who is the author and what was her purpose in writing?

Attioa Hosian was a female, indian author born 20th october 1913 she moved the the united kingdom in 1947 around the same time part of india became pakistan.

Attia Hosain was born in Lucknow in 1913 into a distinguished Muslim family, which belonged to the feudal order the Taluqdars of Oudh. She has described this world vividly in the story collectionPhoenix Fled

(London, Chatto and Windus, 1953) and her novel,Sunlight on A Broken Column

(London, Chatto and Windus, 1961). Hosain’s parents both belonged to families of Arab descent, known for their scholars and sufi saints. They had lived for centuries in India, in the region which was once part of the Kingdom of Oudh, was re-named the UP (the United Provinces) during the Raj and is now Uttar Pradesh..

Hosain’s father, Sheikh Shahid Husain Kidwai, Taluqdar of Gadia, was educated at Canning College, Lucknow, Christ’s College, Cambridge and was called to the bar at the Middle Temple.
